Things I Know
As I get older I tend to get more introspective… and I realize just how true the often-ridiculuous turn of phrase can be. They’re like stereotypes–there’s always a nugget of truth.
So…
Some truths I’ve learned:
- We are what we do, and how we act.
- Courtesy is costless–and should be granted immediately.
- Respect is expensive–and should never be earned easily.
- Rejection hurts once–regret hurts forever.
- It’s better to know, than not know.
- No one knows what you’re thinking unless you show them.
- Clothes really can make the man.
- Some days life is great, and some days life sucks–but whichever it is, it’s your life–which means you’re doing it to yourself.
- Live today–the past has passed, and the future isn’t here yet.
- You can’t be anything other than who you are–but you get to decide who that is.
- You’re stronger than you think. It’s a choice.
And a few other truths, but not mine…
- Clothes are never a frivolity: they always mean something. ~James Laver
- Carelessness in dressing is moral suicide. ~Honoré de Balzac
- I don’t know who invented the high heel, but all men owe him a lot. ~Marilyn Monroe
- Fashion is like the id. It makes you desire things you shouldn’t. ~Bob Morris
- A dress makes no sense unless it inspires men to want to take it off you. ~Françoise Sagan
- Remember that always dressing in understated good taste is the same as playing dead. ~Susan Catherine
There are/will be more… but that’s enough for today.
